POST HIGH SCHOOL

Why is this an area of need?

Children have special needs as they have grown up in an orphanage:

  • No family connections

  • No tribal connections

  • No network for opportunities

This leads to a lack of monetary and human capital resources. Based on student’s aspirations we do our best to support them.

These things are much less expensive to provide in Kenya than in the US, but we have 30+ kids graduating over the next 5 years, so we need your help!

How does Love For Kenya help?

Our goal is to help these students successfully make the transition to independently providing for themselves. Currently, students head to a 6 month discipleship and life skills program in Embu (north of Nairobi). Once they graduate this program, each student takes a different path based on funding and their goals. Options that students have taken advantage of in the past include university, technical school, starting a business, apprenticeship.

How can you help?

SUCCESS STORY

Meet Elizabeth Mmbone

At six years old Elizabeth watched helplessly as her sister died because of a lack of healthcare. This formed a passion for medicine that has been burning strong ever since that day. She came to Shangilia Children's Home at the age of 12 because of a bad home situation. Elizabeth poured herself into her studies and did very well academically. Because of her high marks, she was able to attend Kenyatta University where she studied medicine. Her passion steered her into epidemiology and after getting her Master's Degree she is now an Epidemiologist at Jaramongi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital! She has had the opportunity write a textbook, travel internationally to attend conferences, and win awards. She considers her whole Shangilia family to be her brothers and sisters having an open door policy if they are able to visit her. Elizabeth could never have accomplished all this success if her sponsors hadn’t faithfully supported her through her school journey.
